Welcome to Freetard.com! I set this site up to give people an easy way to access the content I create and upload to the Internet Archive, so feel free to browse around and if you see something you want, go over there and download it. As of this posting, there’s nothing uploaded yet; you’ll just have to bookmark this page or add the feed to your RSS aggregator and wait for stuff to show up! I will be posting copies of almost all of my wildlife and scenery photos, several years’ worth of video footage, and links to any cool Open Source or Free software that I deem worthy of my endorsement.
In case you have been just watching TV for the last few years instead of trawling the wonderful depths of the Internet, you may be wondering why I chose the name “Freetard”, and what its connotations are. The term was coined by a blogger named Daniel Lyons who writes a blog called “The Secret Diary Of Steve Jobs“, wherein he rants about “freetards” and others who would make his (Steve Jobs’) life miserable. It’s a great read and Daniel is clearly a talented writer, as well as a funny guy.
At any rate, Fake Steve rants in one of his posts about ‘freetards’, that is, people who are fervently evangelistic regarding Open Source, Creative Commons, and just generally the whole “free as in beer” crowd. I thought the term was hilarious, and like many people throughout history, I decided to turn the pejorative into a compliment, and wear the name like a badge of honour. And, since I have been thinking for some time now about how to go about “liberating” my own collection of media, I decided to set up this site.
